Legalization and apostille
When a document (or its translation) must be valid abroad, the swearing-in is often not enough: an additional certification of the signature is needed. Depending on the country, this is called an apostille or legalization.
Apostille or legalization: which one
For countries party to the Hague Convention, the apostille is enough — a single stamp recognised among the signatory States. For other countries, legalization is required, going through the diplomatic-consular authorities.
In which order to proceed
The correct order depends on the country and the use: sometimes the original is apostilled before translation, other times you swear and then apostille the signature. We check the right sequence to avoid unnecessary steps.
