Sworn translation of ID card and passport
A sworn translation of identity documents (ID card, passport) is needed when a foreign identity document must take effect in Italy or abroad. We translate it and swear to its fidelity in Court.
It is required for registry and citizenship procedures, opening accounts, purchases and contracts, immigration procedures and, in some cases, travel and official recognition.
When you need a sworn translation of identity documents
ID cards and passports must be translated and sworn whenever an identity document has to be valid in another country or before bodies that don't accept the original language. The most common cases:
- Citizenship and immigration (residence permit, reunification).
- Opening bank accounts and dealings with banks and insurers.
- Purchases, contracts and notarial deeds with a foreign party.
- Registry enrolment and procedures at the Comune.
- Travel, visas and official recognition abroad.
What to prepare and attach
- A clear photo of the front and back, fully legible.
- The exact spelling of names (as on the passport).
- The intended use (bank, registry, immigration, etc.).
Delivery time
For an identity document we usually deliver within 5 working days of confirmation.
Stamp duty
Stamp duty normally applies, except in cases of exemption provided by law. We state the amount in the quote.
Validity abroad
If the translation must be valid abroad we add the apostille or legalisation after the sworn translation. We tell you in advance which route is needed.
